The Queen's Diamond Jubilee, which celebrates the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth's accession to the throne, took place during Week 7.
The Mayor's Oxford Jubilee party took place on Monday in Gloucester Green, a square that hosts the farmer's market and antiques market every week.
I watched the Jubilee concert on BBC on Monday night. The concert of famous British artists was held outside Buckingham Palace. One of the coolest acts was when Madness sang "Our House" from the roof of the Palace while images of London were projected onto the building.
Tuesday was the actual bank holiday for the Jubilee. We went to London with hopes of seeing the Jubilee parade, but we got into the city too late for that. When we got out of the tube with the intention of walking to the parade route, there were tons of people lined up along the street. We were very confused, since that street wasn't part of the route. Some guy told us that everyone there was lining up to be under the plane flyover. Hyde Park was showing the parade on big screens, so we walked there instead. The streets were packed.
Unfortunately it started to rain when we were in Hyde Park.
The parade concluded with a plane fly-over. One set of planes let out colored smoke trails.
On Wednesday evening, I went right from the library to meet up at the pub with Zander's friends who were visiting from Wesleyan.
We had lunch at Turl Street Kitchen on Thursday in an attempt to get the whole regular Turl dinner group together there before one member left the next weekend and another member was going away for the next week.
My classmate Manuel had his birthday on Friday, so we all went to celebrate at the Rickety Press in Jericho, a gastropub that is decorated with books.
I conducted another interview for my thesis on Saturday night with someone working in Congress who is a friend of one of my classmates.
